ABOUT US

The Plume is a traditional Grade II listed 16th century pub in the heart of Sherborne directly opposite the Abbey with B&B rooms & a picturesque hamstone walled courtyard. However, behind this traditional exterior there are few surprises within……

FOOD

The biggest surprise is we serve Italian Small Plates, some of the best Italian food you’ll find locally. Similar to tapas, we would suggest that you order 2 to 3 dishes each, a bit at a time or lots to share and the dishes will arrive when they’re ready.

Expect to see seasonal Italian & West-country ingredients used, with a minimum of fuss, to make our authentic, occasionally quirky, Italian home-made dishes. All our pasta, bread & sauces are made in house on a daily basis. It also provides an unparalleled experience for those who have dietary requirements with numerous options for vegetarians, vegans & coeliacs. Click here for further detail.

DRINK

Once again, we do the traditional, pouring classic pub tipples of real ales, lagers, ciders, spirits & soft drinks. However, we take our drinks to a whole new level with over 60 Italian wines by the glass & a huge selection of Italian themed cocktails. Click here for further detail.

BEDROOMS

The Plume has four ensuite B&B rooms (and more on the way) priced from £90.00 per night up to £150.00 per night including breakfast. They range from a super-king double with the best view of the Abbey in Sherborne to a ‘studio’ style room off our glorious courtyard. They are all ensuite, well decorated, with double sofa bed, wi-fi, tea & coffee, large TV and each have their own individual character. However, the big bonus is there is mouth-watering Italian food, great beer, velvety Italian wine and lively cocktails waiting downstairs (or brought up to your room). Click here for further detail.

GATHERINGS

At The Plume, we try our best to cater for parties of all shapes and sizes both at the pub and at other venues in the area. The style of food is great for an intimate table of 2, a party of 12 or more in our private dining room. It can also be adapted to canapes and ‘bowl food’ for 50 people gathering and mingling in our courtyard, 100 booked seated in the entire venue or taking our unique offering to another venue to celebrate a special day. Click here for further detail.

The pub also regularly plays host to monthly quizzes, music events from opera to DJ nights, kids parties with pizza making & skittles, wine tasting nights and much more. The private dining room is ideal for meetings and there is no charge for the use of the room but a small charge for the projector if you need it. We have shown a few sports events where and when it feels appropriate but are yet to see Italy win the Six Nations!

ECO-FRIENDLY

On top of all this, we are trying to do our bit for the planet. We have always been relatively 'Eco-friendly' because we have undertaken the usual steps of reuse, recycle, reduce. We now have a energy contract with Green Energy for not only 100% green electricity but also 100% green gas - Green Energy are the only supplier who can supply 100% green gas. Our style of food is also incredibly 'Green', using very little meat & fish on our menu and we have an abundance of choices for vegans and vegetarians that inflict a greatly reduced toll on the planet. From February 2022, we have started to make a contribution from sales of all our meat, seafood & dairy dishes to a fund that will be spent on environmental causes. Please click here to see more details of the steps we have made so far. However, we know that we can do more so don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any suggestions or ideas of how the fund can be used.

Eco-Friendly

We are trying to do our bit for the planet. We have always been relatively 'Eco-friendly' because we have undertaken the usual steps of reuse, recycle, reduce. Our style of food is also incredibly 'Green' as we have very little waste and, although we are not meat-free, we use very little meat & fish and we have an abundance of choices for vegans and vegetarians that inflict a greatly reduced toll on the planet. However, we knew we could do more and still can but here are some of the changes we have made during 2020/21 to improve our footprint - from signing a 100% Green Gas energy contract to reducing our use of plastic and much more in between.

Sherborne

Welcome to Sherborne in Dorset, a picture perfect town full of history and plenty to see and do. The ancient and quaint market town of Sherborne is famous for its historic buildings including its Abbey, the renowned Sherborne Boys’ School and the two castles overlooking the town as well as the quintessential high street. Sherborne is perfect for the Instagram Generation. The bustling town and surrounding area offers visitors a multitude of attractions to keep you entertained.

The romantic ruins of the 'old' castle decorate the top of the hill, and the Capability Brown designed gardens surround the 'new' castle, once the home of Sir Walter Raleigh. The magnificent Abbey, made of golden hamstone like much of the town, takes centre place in the town alongside the charming arches of the picturesque almshouse and whatever the season, or the weather, the town provides the perfect frame! Cheap Street is home to a wide range of independent shops offering fashion, gifts, antiques, local food, specialist chocolates, wine and more. The world famous schools provide the town with more glorious architecture as well as a role call of influential alumni from Alan Turing to John le Carré and more recently Chris Martin from Coldplay. On top of all this, there are numerous cultural events and festivals to draw you into the town and wonderful rolling countryside and a number of leading attractions on our doorstep. Whatever you are interested in, Sherborne will provide you with fantastic memories and experiences.
